A Summer of Focus – I Will Make My Passive Income Goals!

by Tiffany on June 21, 2010

Here in the U.S. today is the first day of summer. When most people think about summer they think about vacations and taking it easy and relaxing. I on the other hand, think of the year being half over and needing to get my butt into gear on my passive income goals!

If you are a member of Keyword Academy, then you may have gotten the message about the Summer Rush Challenge that starts on July 1. I have to say that this challenge is exactly what I need right now to motivate to make my goals by the end of the year.

The Summer Rush Challenge at Keyword Academy is a personal challenge to the members step up their game and make a goal of how much content they are going to write in the next 90 days. There are no monetary or physical prizes as it is more of a personal prize if you achieve that you set out to do. You also get a badge to add to your name if you write at least 50K words and up.

I decided to evaluate how much content I really need to produce for my many sites I want to get up and running and I decided to set my goal at 150K words in 90 days. After I thought about it, I realized just how many words that is, but it is completely doable for me. That equals 1667 (rounded) a day, which is actually far less than I used to write when I was freelance writing.

So, for this summer, I am getting complete focus on my passive income goals and on those 150K words I am going to write. I have a small group of fellow members that will help with the motivation and we will help each other stay on track.

If you are interested in partaking in this challenge and you are not a member of The Keyword Academy, then I recommend you first sign up for program for only $1 at  Keyword Academy. Then go through the core videos in the next few days. Email me through this blog and I will try to help you with any questions. Also I would be more than willing to help motivate you along in this challenge and you can “play” right along with me.

The way that I look at it, if I can focus this summer and get my sites making more money, next summer I should be able to afford that luxury vacation for my family and I. Work hard this summer and reap the rewards next and the next year and the next year, etc, etc… not a bad deal!

It takes me forever to write articles. How do you write that much content a day and not take all day doing it?

Hey Cathy,
I used to freelance write for about 2 years, so I got pretty good at turning out content. For some topics, it’s really easy for me to write 400 words and not even think about it. For a few other sites, it feels like pulling teeth, but I found the more I write, the faster I get. Believe me, there are some days that I don’t want to write a single word, but I know without any content online, there is no money coming in!

When you really break the numbers down, 150,000 words really doesn’t seem like too much writing since that’s around 3-4 articles per day.

I know I plan to write at least 6 pages of content per day for my niche website experiment (3 of which will actually go onto the website), but this is more like a walk in the park since there were times when I wrote over 12,000 words per day.

Good luck on your challenge! :)

Hi Tiffany,

Just visited your blog because of a comment you left on mine. It’s so exciting to find blogs by people doing similar things and coming from a similar place. I worked as an online freelance writer for a while too and like you, soon decided to move over to developing my own sites. Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say “hi” and let you know I’ll be adding you to my blogroll as I think many others would benefit from reading about your experiences.

Best,
Michelle

Yolanda – You are right that 150,000 words over 90 days is really not that much compared to what I used to write when I did freelance writing. I was writing more like 5,000 words a day 7 days a week. But, I have found that when you write for yourself it takes much more discipline to get the work done (at least for me it does). I would really love to blow 15K words out of the water!

Thanks for visiting Michelle and I enjoyed your blog as well. I too like finding other people that are doing the same as me. It’s nice to find average, everyday people like you and me rather than trying to relate to “gurus” who are making five figures a month.
