Keyword Academy Case Study 5 Month Update

by Tiffany on September 1, 2010

One more month and this Keyword Academy case study will be over, but I think what I may do is still report on this website every 2-3 months just to let you know that it does take time to make money and get the site ranked where you want it to be. So, after month 6, I might give you a little update when the site is 9 months old and see how much it differences from month 6, as I will continue to work on this site until it is ranking high on the first page of Google.

I was able to work on the site more this month and even came close to the goal of publishing 25 backlink articles. Although the site is not moving up in ranks for the main keyword like I would like it to, I know that I do need more backlinks for it to finally hit the first page of Google. The cousin keywords for the site aren’t doing half-bad either and I think they are actually the reason why I made some money off the site this month.

Here are the results for month 5. The previous months are in parenthesis (month 4, month 3, month 2, month 1).

  • Google Rank for Main Keyword –  18 (19,28,22, 34)
  • Google Rank for Exact Domain Keyword – 1 (3, 3,1, 1)
  • Cousin Keyword #1 –  15 (19, 42,30)
  • Cousin Keyword #2 – 11 (17, 26,9)
  • Pages Indexed in Google – 13 (14, 22,22, 10)
  • Backlinks in Yahoo –  30 (23, 20, 17, 3)
  • Income Earned –  $8.39 ($0, $1.25, $6.36, $0)

One more month left in the official case study and I’m really hoping that I can at least get this niche site on the first page of Google by the end of the month. I also wouldn’t mind if the 2 cousin keywords got on the first page as well, since that would just mean more traffic and potentially more money, even though they don’t have as many searches as the main keyword does.

In the 5 months since the site has been up I have made $16 from the site, so it has already paid for its domain registration and since I already have unlimited hosting with my other sites, it only equals to being about $1 for hosting a year if you divide the sites by how much I pay for hosting every year. So, the site has officially made a profit in 5 months. Now, just to get the site to #1 on Google and really start bringing in the money!

Hello Tiffany,

First of all thank you for sharing the information with us. And um, I’m really new to your site but have been reading Grizzly (huh can’t miss that guy) and TKA articles and videos. So anyway I have a question for you (lol).

I have a site and I’ve already written 40+ (dofollow) articles for the site as backlinks within 3 weeks and was wondering will it be enough (the sites that comes first for the main keyword have page ranks 0,3,3, etc) and the reason that the first site ranks well for the KW (getting lazy writing :D ) is that the have 85% of the keyword in the url. And others does not have it as well as they have it.

So my question since my site is very new but still the 1 ranking PR0 site has 2 Backlinks and do you think 40 articles would be enuough?

And since they (most ofthem) are general article sites will it make a difference if I join TKA and use the GPS (an honest answer please :D )?, thank you.

*oh BTW the e-mail is a false one and the name….. ha.. so , I’ll come again to your site for your ANSWER. Thank you.

Truthfully, I can’t tell you if it is going to be enough. No one knows how many exact backlinks you need to take over a #1 position. That being said, are your 40 articles posted on 40 different sites? It is better to have 40 articles posted on 40 different sites rather than having all 40 backlinks coming from the same website.

For example, I have site that is about 8 months and have been trying to rank it for a keyword in which the first site is only PR1 and the second and third are PR0. The first ranked site only has 10 backlinks and the second and third both have over 50. My site is currently bouncing around the first page around #8 and I have about 50 backinks as well. The first site is about 4 years old and I think that is why it is taking so many backlinks to overcome it since it is such an established domain. At first glance it looks like you could easily outrank the first site with only a couple of links, but that is not always the case. I plan on just building more links until my site reaches #1.

I would suggest you do take the leap and join TKA, especially since the first month is totally free. What do you have to lose?

Hello Tiffany,

Thank you for the answer. And yes all those 40 articles are on totally different article sites with my anchor text in it (they vary from PR-4-7).

And ya, about the TKA, the problem is that I don’t have an activated pay-pal account and they don’t accept my debit card either ( :( ). So anyway again thank you for the answer. Bye. Oh hey this time , i used my real name. :D

Hi Tiffany,

“For example, I have site that is about 8 months and have been trying to rank it for a keyword in which the first site is only PR1 and the second and third are PR0. Forgive me if I seem like an expert but I’m just saying that, the first site and your site are also “old” right, I mean 4 years is a long time but 8 months is not that bad. So how about trying to add 10-12 posts to your site rather than for backlinks…..

Because if you have 50-backlinks but still G seems a bit suspicious, so how about trying to impress “her” (I’m a guy, I can’t help it but to name G as a girl :D ) with some content??.

Anyway this is just a guess. Again thank you for quick answers and take care. Bye.

Gayan.

Gayan,
Your thinking could be right as well. Truthfully, does anyone really know what Google wants?
